NEF awards several scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate students studying in a variety of fields who demonstrate financial need. Scholarships are available to men and women of all backgrounds and who attend regionally accredited institutions. Additionally, NEF awards a number of scholarships earmarked specifically for members of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Scholarship awards range in amounts and are one-time awards. However, recipients are eligible to reapply each year through degree completion.
Applicants for awards must be an incoming freshman, continuing and/or transfer student at an accredited 2-year or 4-year institution in the United States. They must be planning to enroll in full-time, undergraduate or graduate courses of study. The minimum cumulative G.P.A. for a scholarship award is 2.5. Recipients will be selected on the basis of financial need, academic and personal merit, as well as demonstrated involvement within their respective community, when applicable.
Application Procedure and Time period
Interested applicants may apply by completing the online NEF Scholarship Application made available on this site. Once the Scholarship Awards Committee has concluded the application process and selected the scholarship recipients for the upcoming academic year, all applicants will be notified via e-mail the outcome of being selected an NEF Scholar.
Terms of Disbursement
Awards will be disbursed no later than December 31st to the institution of each NEF Scholar.
The NEF Scholarship Committee selects the scholarship recipients. For selection purposes, applicants are ranked by the committee according to a combination of academic promise and financial need. Receipt or potential receipt of other scholarships or student financial aid may be considered in the selection process.
Amount of Award
Scholarship awards range from $500 - $2,000, and is finalized prior to the start of the new academic year. NEF Scholars will be notified via e-mail of the amount of the scholarship award.
An NEF Scholarship award does not automatically renew. The award is for the academic year only. Each candidate must complete a new NEF Scholarship Application. Past scholarship recipients and their awards are not guaranteed, however, prior scholarship recipients are given additional consideration, if they have improved or excelled academically, continue to demonstrate financial need, and timely submission.
